Die Strompreisinflation ist in Europa fünfmal so hoch wie der siebenprozentige Spitzenwert in Japan nach dem Energiepreisanstieg im Jahr 2011 infolge des Unfalls in Fukushima, was das europäische Wachstum wesentlich stärker beeinträchtigt. Es wird geschätzt, dass der Anstieg der japanischen Energiepreise 2011 das japanische BIP um 0,5 Prozent schmälerte. Der heutige Strompreisschock ist in Europa viel größer, was einen größeren Wachstumseinbruch bedeuten kann.
